Lisa Hollister Sorensen was born on the island of Aruba in 1962. She received a B.A. in Art History from the College of Wooster in Wooster Ohio. After five years as a photo editor for Irena Chalmers Books in NYC, she continued her studies at the School of Visual Arts and the International Center for Photography.
Ms. Sorensen’s photographs have been exhibited in many galleries including SoHo Gallery in NYC; Noel Fine Art in Bronxville, New York; and The Cooley Gallery in Old Lyme, Connecticut. In addition, she has created a large body of work for private and commercial clients in the United States and abroad. Internationally, Ms. Sorensen is represented by ChromoZone. She has been the featured artist for numerous fundraisers for organizations such as Save the Children, Jacobs Cure and the National Council on Alcoholism. Ms. Sorensen’s images have been licensed for use on book cover jackets, writing journals and CD covers.
Harvest House published Ms. Sorensen’s photographs in the book A Simple Gift of Comfort by Jane Kirkpatrick. “One of my most meaningful projects was the collaboration with author Jane Kirkpatrick for her book about grief. I was commissioned when Jane was halfway through the manuscript. My images were a driving source of inspiration to the author to complete the second half of the book. When several readers expressed to me that the images were as healing as the words, I felt honored that my sight had touched others and helped them to heal”.
Lisa Sorensen captures profound beauty in the minute details of daily life. Her photographic artwork allows the viewer to see through her eyes, transforming her subject matter from the mundane to the sublime. What separates Ms. Sorensen from fellow artists is the breadth of her artwork, ranging from an ear of ripe, summer corn to the weathered grill of a vintage Rolls Royce.
“My photographic artwork is about capturing the essence of mood, time and place. What resonate most are the details that are often overlooked: the delicacy of a Japanese maple leaf; the place where the water meets the reeds; the curve of a Windsor back chair and the shadow it casts. My intention is not just to record a moment in time, but to also kindle an emotion.”
